Pretty Pingyao

An overnight train from Datong left us in Pingyao, further south in Shanxi Province the next morning. This is a well-preserved Ming dynasty town still surrounded by it's original walls. A helpful hostel owner let us shower for a small fee and arranged tickets for our onward trip that same night. After freshening up a little we left our bags with him and went off to explore the town.It was quite nice. Not extremely exciting, but pretty enough. We must have walked around three quarters of the city walls over the course of the day, including bits we really shouldn't have after accidentally entering a building site, but we managed to pass through after looking lost and pathetic for a while, so it was all ok.No time to waste hanging round though, we were really making good time through this part of our trip trying to catch up on our planned itinerary and were very soon on a very comfortable soft sleeper train to Xi'an.(PS. This excellent sign just about sums up the state of some facilities in China. Love it.)
