The next day we were unsurprisingly not the most productive. We didn't walk the city walls, nor revisit the cool museum, but we did manage to have a look round the Great Mosque. As I said before, Xi'an, and western China in general, has a sizeable muslim community and the Great Mosque in Xi'an is one of the largest in China. It's built in a Chinese style, and looks more like a Buddhist temple than anything else. It's only when you see the odd arabic inscriptions that you remember where you really are.
It was a beautiful complex and a really pleasant place to wander around. It was so quiet and peaceful, and with hardly any tourists either. The whole place is still in use, and there were prayers in progress while we were there. It was really interesting to see. This was our last day in Xi'an unfortunately. I'd have loved to have stayed longer. The city had a great feeling about it. I know I'll be back.
